Bark mulch is made from the outer bark of trees and breaks down slowly, making it a long-lasting and attractive landscaping product. Wood chips are a byproduct of wood processing and break down faster, making them less ideal for decorative use. Stebran sells 100% bark mulch.
A depth of 2 to 3 inches is ideal for most applications. Too little and you lose the weed suppression benefit, too much and you risk moisture buildup around plant stems.
